Partner Spotlight: BBSP

As long-time collaborators, NABSA is excited to be joining BBSP as an official partner. Here’s a guest post about the work that BBSP does and the work that we’re looking forward to continuing in 2026 and beyond.

By Tangier Barnes Wright, Deputy Director of Shared Micromobility, PeopleForBikes

Founded in 2014 with a mission to ensure equitable access to bikeshare for communities of color and low-income communities, BBSP is a one-of-a-kind collaboration between PeopleForBikes, the City of Philadelphia’s Indego Bike Share program, and the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO).

We specialize in the equitable planning and implementation of shared micromobility programs, advocating for better and more accessible places to bike, and mobilizing North American cities toward safe, sustainable, and accessible transportation.

Our work:

  • Funding programs that increase participation in and access to shared micromobility in communities of color and low-income communities
  • Publishing weekly stories spotlighting systems successfully increasing access
  • Creating toolkits and one-pagers to guide equitable implementation
  • Convening practitioners annually to share lessons and tackle industry challenges
  • Supporting early-career professionals of color through the Transportation Justice Fellowship

Our Impact:

  • We create and maintain space for critical conversations around how communities of color are included in and have access to shared micromobility
  • We have built a community among practitioners from across the country that has not only resulted in important lasting personal and professional relationships, but has enabled the replication of countless equitable shared micromobility programs
  • We help welcome countless people to the joys and practicality of bicycling who would not have been reached by undersupported or non existent outreach programs
  • We help get more people of color, youth, older adults, and lower income people on bikes

As 2025 comes to a close, BBSP is celebrating some exciting news: NABSA is joining BBSP as an official partner. Together, the partners are designing the next chapter of BBSP and securing support for its future.

With current funding ending next June, we’re energized by what’s ahead.
