NABSA and NACTO Discuss Shared Micromobility’s Story

On Tuesday, June 10th, Laura Mallonee, Membership & Engagement Director with the North American Bikeshare & Scootershare Association (NABSA) and Camille Boggan, Program Manager, Policy & Practice with the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO) sat down to discuss shared micromobility and its impact in communities across North America.

Here are some highlights from the event:

  • In the last 15 years, shared micromobility has proven itself as an important mode in the public transportation ecosystem. The industry continues to grow, mature, and contribute to thriving communities.
  • Bikeshare and e-scooter provide multiple options for people to get around and give users options that make travel choices more convenient and efficient.
  • Shared micromobility supports the economy. It helps people spend more in the community and makes the local economy stronger. When people use these services, they visit local shops and businesses more often. Shared micromobility creates and offers a diversity of jobs.
  • Dedicated community outreach is essential for ensuring shared micromobility systems meet local needs. Ambassador programs can provide economic opportunities and foster a sense of ownership and comfort with shared micromobility systems.
  • Public funding for shared micromobility can support system sustainability and longevity. As a viable transportation option and mode that contributes to climate goals, has economic benefits, increases equity and access to transportation, and supports goals for vulnerable roadway user safety, shared micromobility should have more access to public funds.
  • Safe and connected infrastructure allows shared micromobility to thrive. People are more likely to choose to bike or scoot when there are safe places to ride.
  • The future of shared micromobility promises opportunities for ridership growth, expansions of adaptive programs, innovation of vehicle types, regional connectivity, and more!
