Member Spotlight: WE-cycle

Founded in 2013, WE-cycle is a not-for-profit bikeshare owner-operator in Colorado’s Roaring Fork Valley serving a 32-mile corridor with more than 600 bikes and about 100 stations. The regional system, which at peak season delivers over 3,000 bikeshare rides per day, consists of four distinct networks linked by a Bus Rapid Transit system. Since 2018, WE-cycle has offered fare-free 30-minute rides in pursuit of its mission to inspire a healthy community and roll toward a greener future. WE-cycle is committed to providing enjoyable, safe, and reliable bikeshare as an active, on-demand service integrated into the valley’s broader transit ecosystem.
WE-cycle prioritized electrification in the pursuit of modernization and success. WE-cycle began adding e-bikes to the system in 2020. Today, the fleet includes over 350 e-bikes, more than 50% of the total. In 2025, e-bikes logged almost 270,000 rides. The WE-cycle team says that e-bikes have been vital to supporting rising ridership and to keeping the system naturally balanced given the steep and hilly landscape.
A defining characteristic of their operations is that 100% of WE-cycle e-bikes are charged at stations: no battery swaps, no return to warehouse. The operations team monitors battery levels and redeploys low-battery bikes to electrified stations as needed. About 20% of WE-cycle’s 100 stations are electrified to support e-bike charging. Of those, a majority use solar as their only power source, thanks to a long-standing partnership with Colorado-based Skyhook Solar. “Harnessing the Colorado sun for solar power has been key to moving fast and keeping up with the pace of system growth, getting charging on the ground without waiting on trenching, permitting, or utility timelines. In addition, select stations have been connected directly to the grid when infrastructure projects allow for easy and cost-effective integration. Overall, this station-focused approach has minimized the risks and costs of managing additional lithium-ion batteries and allowed WE-cycle to leverage renewable energy and advance its sustainability goals while keeping the fleet powered and riders happy.”
When asked about the value of NABSA membership, WE-cycle said, “We value the community and shared knowledge that NABSA helps facilitate within our industry. NABSA sits at the hub of our collective learnings, opportunities for improvement, and best practices and supports our growth and advancement. Our success is a shared one.”
