NABSA is thrilled to announce the release of the 2025 Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report for North America coming up on Thursday, August 6th, at 2 PM ET. This virtual event will celebrate the seventh annual Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report for North America – the only report of its kind for shared micromobility. The annual State of the Industry report shares year-over-year metrics demonstrating the industry trends, growth, and success in shared micromobility for Canada, the US, and Mexico.
The inaugural report from 2020 provided an in-depth analysis of 2019 data, marking the first extensive examination of shared micromobility trends across North America. The second report focused on 2020, showcasing the industry’s resilience amid COVID-19. It included insights on trip and vehicle data, modeshift results, rider demographics, and economic impacts. The third report continued to explore shared micromobility during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, revealing ongoing resilience and recovery. The fourth report indicated a return to pre-pandemic trip levels, along with a rising interest in shared micromobility, emphasizing its significance in cities of all sizes across North America. The fifth annual report, examined data from 2023, and tracked trends before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. It highlighted shared micromobility’s sustained viability and strength as a crucial component of the public transportation ecosystem. The sixth annual report focusing on trends from 2024 highlighted that shared micromobility ridership is thriving, showing that it is both a service that works for people to get where they need to go, and is also valued by communities of all sizes across North America.
The 2025 report continues to capture year-over-year metrics demonstrating the trends, growth, and success of shared micromobility in Canada, the US, and Mexico.

In the meantime, let’s take a moment to revisit some trends from the last sixth State of the Industry reports.
Ridership Resilience
The early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic impacted shared micromobility usage. However, the industry quickly bounced back, finishing 2020 within 20% of 2019 levels. This positive trend persisted into 2021. By 2022, trip-making had returned to pre-pandemic levels in North America, accompanied by a rapid increase in cities offering shared micromobility options. 2023 and 2024 ridership for shared micromobility reached all-time highs across North America.
Enhancing Transportation Options
Shared micromobility both offers a mode of transport, and enhances other travel modes. Trips on shared micromobility are taken from start to end points, as well as to reach transit stops, or get home from a transit stop. In 2024, 74% of riders reported using shared micromobility to connect with transit, while 18% of all shared micromobility trips were specifically for this purpose. Additionally, it improves car commuting by enabling individuals to park once and continue their journey without needing to drive or find new parking spots. When drivers opt for shared micromobility instead of making car trips, it alleviates congestion. In 2024, 35% of shared micromobility trips replaced a car trip.
Utilizing Shared Micromobility to Decarbonize Transportation
Riding shared micromobility options significantly reduces transportation-related greenhouse gas emissions compared to driving a gasoline-powered vehicle. Since 2019, shared micromobility trips in North America have helped offset around 403 million pounds (183 million kilograms) of CO₂ emissions by replacing car trips.
Electric Shared Micromobility
The popularity of electric shared micromobility shows consistent growth year after year. In 2024, 66% of shared micromobility rides were taken on electric devices, and 79% of systems across North America included electric shared micromobility options. E-bikeshare trips have seen substantial growth over the years, rising from 7 million in 2019 to nearly 64 million in 2024.
