North America – The North American Bikeshare & Scootershare Association (NABSA) is excited to bring the Annual Conference to Montreal, Quebec for the Momentum: The Power of Shared Micromobility Conference this October 15th to 17th. The NABSA Annual Conference is the leading global venue for shared micromobility and transportation leaders, practitioners, operators, and equipment and technology providers to tackle important issues facing the industry.

According to the latest Shared Micromobility State of the Industry Report for North America, shared micromobility ridership reached an all-time high for the second year in a row. In 2024, shared micromobility ridership grew 31% reaching a new high with at least 225 million trips taken across North America in 415 cities of all sizes. The report shows that shared micromobility ridership is thriving, demonstrating its effectiveness in helping people reach their destinations and its value to communities of all sizes across North America.

“The shared micromobility industry remains strong, providing meaningful service and benefits to communities,” says NABSA Executive Director Sam Herr. “The NABSA conference is an important annual event that continues to bring shared micromobility leaders and practitioners across the public, private, and nonprofit sectors together to move shared micromobility and its benefits in communities forward.”

The conference theme, Momentum: The Power of Shared Micromobility, captures shared micromobility’s resilience and continual evolution and growth; it recognizes the power of shared micromobility to increase efficiency and economic growth in our core transportation systems and expand equitable and environmentally sustainable transportation options. During this 3-day conference, attendees will get first hand experience of Montreal’s street infrastructure and shared micromobility system, BIXI. Attendees will exchange ideas with peers, explore the latest technologies and innovations, hear from inspiring speakers, and network with colleagues globally.

This year’s conference host, BIXI, operates 12,000 bikes and 1,000 stations across Montreal and neighboring communities. In 2024, BIXI had a record breaking 13 million trips and their ridership continues to grow. This June 10th, BIXI users took 98,500 trips—exceeding the previous daily record of 83,897, set just the day before.

This year, BIXI added cargo trailers to the network. The new trailers were entirely designed and assembled in Montreal, and are now available at several BIXI stations across the city. Last summer, BIXI introduced Carrefour BIXI, a bike repair shop connected to a larger docking station. This allows bikes that need minor repairs to be fixed onsite and be put back on the roads quicker. Conference attendees will have the opportunity for a peer-to-peer, behind-the-scenes look at these new innovations.

“Hosting the NABSA Conference in Montreal is a proud and meaningful moment for BIXI. Our city has long been a leader in bikeshare, with one of the largest and most active systems in North America. BIXI is not just a service, it’s a movement that has shaped our bike lane network, strengthened community ties, and transformed how people move through the city. By bringing the conference here, we want participants to experience firsthand the impact bikeshare can have on urban mobility. It’s also a unique opportunity to unite with other leaders, share expertise, and continue advancing bikeshare as a collective force for more sustainable and connected cities,” says Christian Vermette, General Manager at BIXI.

The NABSA Annual Conference will feature a keynote from Montreal Mayor, Valérie Plante. Mayor Plante is a long-time supporter of cycling infrastructure and has worked to expand the city’s bicycle network. During her keynote, Mayor Plante will share about the journey to Montreal being globally recognized as a bicycle friendly city and how shared micromobility has been an integral piece in the movement.

This year, NABSA is excited to hear from Charles T. Brown during a plenary hosted by NABSA’s Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging Committee, Building Momentum: Addressing Barriers and Promoting Equitable Access in Transportation. Charles is the founder and CEO of Equitable Cities and author of Arrested Mobility: Overcoming the Threat to Black Movement.

For 2025, Lyft Urban Solutions, joins the NABSA conference as presenting sponsor. “Shared micromobility continues to break ridership records across North America, proving its essential role in building more equitable and resilient transportation networks,” said Caroline Samponaro, Vice President, Head of External Affairs at Lyft Urban Solutions and member of the NABSA Board of Directors. “Lyft Urban Solutions is proud to return as Presenting Sponsor of NABSA’s annual conference in Montreal, a world-class cycling city, where we’ll showcase our latest innovations and collaborate with industry leaders to shape the next decade of sustainable urban mobility.”

Montreal is consistently ranked as one of the top biking destinations in the world. As a crossroads of Europe and North America, Montreal is distinctly multicultural, is full of attractions, and has a dynamic food scene. The conference offers attendees a unique opportunity to experience Montreal by moving participants through the city on mobile workshops that highlight the urban bike network, explore various districts and neighborhoods, and check out street art. Attendees will also enjoy local flavors at evening receptions and gatherings.

The Momentum: The Power of Shared Micromobility Conference will take place Wednesday, October 15th through Friday, October 17th in Montreal, Quebec. The conference will feature sessions on topics from advocacy and sustainability to partnerships and collaboration, storytelling and community engagement to parking and planning, and so much more. This conference is for anyone engaged in or interested in shared micromobility: shared micromobility operators, equipment manufacturers, technology vendors, data and software providers, city staff working on shared micromobility and infrastructure that supports it, consultants, bike advocacy organizations, planners, community partners using shared micromobility as a tool for local priorities, and shared micromobility researchers.
