How did you come to arrive at working in shared micromobility and your current role?
In the spring of 2022, I started seasonally working with the Adaptive program renting and maintaining the cycles. A position was needed to be filled to help the City of Detroit to manage/add structure to scooter program, I was called into a full time Program Manager position because of my technical background.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Being in the community. Spreading joy within the community, encouraging bike riding – getting out there and having fun. Seeing people who may have apprehension because they have not ridden cycles in a long time, change to enjoy a ride and see that youthful spark return is priceless! Also, there are huge opportunities for growth within our Motor City to incorporate the world of micromobility, and being a part of the expansion of the vision gives me a sense of pride.
What has surprised you most about your job?
Learning the shared experiences from various backgrounds and geographical settings. There are many in the world of micromobility that have conquered hurdles, are currently making plans to expand or arrive at transportation solutions, or in the beginning stages of noticing gaps in mobility needs and filling them. I have also found it interesting how close the connection equity and having access to dependable transportation is related.
