Conference Session Spotlight: Future Ready Workshop on Evolving Mobility Ownership and Procurement

North America has quickly embraced bikeshare, scooter share and other micromobility as part of the transportation network. As the bikeshare and shared micromobility industry grows at a rapid pace, regulators and the private industry are constantly adjusting their approach to find the best model for a mutually beneficial public/private partnership.

How do ownership procurement models need to evolve to handle rapid changes in bikeshare and shared micromobilty? The NABSA Annual Conference How We Move: Micromobility, Macro Impact will host a workshop on future-ready procurement and ownership structures. From public/private partnership, to transit partnerships, to allocating fees, this workshop will look and engage with how this industry remains sustainable over time.

“Five years from now, if Mobility as a Service is delivering as promised, what will our profession look like?” asked workshop facilitator Bill Dossett, Executive Director of Nice Ride Minnesota. “Will cities be working to regulate the ‘Amazon for Transportation’ service? Will entrepreneurs be responding to RFPs and signing franchise agreements based on a public utility model? Will planners be writing rules for APIs that let any private or public operator ‘plug and play’ on a publicly-controlled platform?  Or some combination of all of these?”

In this workshop, we will turn off the microphones and let professionals from all sides of the industry talk in small groups to identify the pros, cons, and pitfalls of these and other paths forward. As this conversation is in its infancy, NABSA is convening the brightest minds in bikeshare and shared micromobility to address the issue. Joining Bill as facilitators are Aaron Ritz from the City of Philadelphia, Colin Hughes from JUMP, and Miller Nuttle from Lyft.

Join the facilitators and dozens of other leaders in the bikeshare and shared micromobility industry at the 2019 NABSA Annual Conference. How We Move: Micromobility, Macro Impact will be held September 30-October 2 in Indianapolis, INRegistration is open now!
