Seeing Yourself in a Shared Micromobility Role

To complement NABSA’s Building a Better Shared Micromobility Industry: Best Practices for More Diverse and Inclusive Workplaces toolkit and strategy to increase diversity in the shared micromobility workforce at all levels we launched “Workforce Diversity Wednesdays”. This blog and social media series spotlights jobs in shared micromobility throughout the year. We post interviews with individuals in the shared micromobility industry highlighting their work and role with the hopes of encouraging more diversity and representation in the field.

Meet Dr. Lloyd M. Cheatom Sr! Dr. Lloyd (he/him) is the Equity Initiatives Manager with POGOH, a small 501(c)3 non-profit, operated by Bike Share Pittsburgh Inc. POGOH’s mission is to provide Pittsburgh with a joyful, sustainable, and affordable mobility service for all residents and visitors. Learn about Dr. Lloyd as he shares his journey to shared micromobility below:

How did you come to arrive at working in shared micromobility and your current role?

I began my career in shared micromobility after working 2 years as a Community Ambassador through POGOH. The Community Ambassador Program is grounded in equity and focuses on connecting Pittsburgh’s marginalized communities, BIPOC, and mobility-deficient neighborhoods to the bikeshare program. This was an opportunity for my cycling club to broaden and continue our mission of service in various communities by inspiring others while promoting and providing healthy activities, as well as encouraging mindfulness and invoking gracious space.

What is your favorite thing about your job?

My favorite part of my profession is that I can stay true to myself while also fulfilling my life’s mission of serving youth and the community.

What has surprised you most about your job?

What surprised me most about my profession is the array of opportunities I have been afforded, including becoming a Transportation Justice Fellow organized by NACTO as part of the Better Bike Share Partnership and participating in NACTO’s Designing Cities Conference this year.

For this year’s NABSA Conference, I look forward to amplifying my voice through storytelling as I discuss the important, genuine, and essential community leadership practices and partnerships related to shared micromobility.

Thank you! I sincerely thank and appreciate everyone who has been part of my journey. Shoutout to my amazing wife and my awesome children, Llogan, Lailee, and Lloyd Jr.
